Our Process

Clothes are Donated

You bring us your clothing donations, washed and ready to wear. It's okay if your donation needs a little mending - we'll fix it before we donate it to the Rescue Mission! You can bring your clothing donations to The Market on 6th Ave on any scheduled Market Day.

Clothes are sorted

We sort donations by condition: does it need to be mended or fixed? If so, we fix them! If not, the clothes are donated directly to The Tacoma Rescue Mission to support our neighbors in need.

There is even a special clothing closet for people who need clothes in order to find or work a job!

Clothes are mended

We work with volunteer sewists to mend donations that need it. That can include fixing hems, closing holes, or sewing buttons, among many other things.

We want to ensure all recipients of these donations feel good wearing them.

Clothes are added to the Clothing Banks

The clean, mended donations are then brought to the Rescue Mission Receiving Center, where they are made available in the Clothing Closets for the residents and clients of the Rescue Mission.

Special Note

Mission Thrift accepts donations of ALL types, not just clothes! Housewares, children's products, furniture, and more all can be donated to Mission Thrift.

Donations are sorted to fit the needs of the residents of The Tacoma Rescue Mission. Donations are sold to financially support The Tacoma Rescue Mission only if they are not needed by any current Residents or Clients of the Tacoma Rescue Mission.

Your donations do the most good at Mission Thrift!

This whole process is managed by volunteers, and no money ever exchanges hands. This is a community service provided by The Market on 6th Ave and Mission Thrift to both keep clothes out of landfills and help provide much-needed support to our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Seeking Sewists!

We have had a beautifully large response to our clothing drive, and we could use a few extra hands helping to mend all of these wonderful donations!

Whether you are best with machine sewing or hand sewing, we would love your volunteer assistance in making sure all of our donations make it to the Tacome Rescue Mission in good condition. You don't have to be a professional to join us! If you can already sew a basic patch, we will help you learn more along the way.

If you are looking for something good to do in your free time, please email us at TheMarketon6thAve@gmail.com to contact us for more information. Thank you!
